The Most Powerful Search Results
How we added a layer of AI to search results to help you find and understand relevant cases quicker in midpage.ai.
An agent that can conduct legal research for you is helpful in many scenarios, like if you need a quick primer on an area of law. (You can go try ours here.) But sometimes, you may still want to run searches and review responsive cases yourself.
That’s why we supercharged this familiar workflow with an AI layer. Let’s dive right into an example to explain why search results are more useful in midpage.
A Fresh Take On A Familiar Workflow
In the example below, I entered a search term comprised of the keywords “clickwrap agreement to arbitrate mutual assent California law,” filtering over the Second Circuit. Like in Lexis or Westlaw, I got a full list of responsive search results.
The difference is that in midpage, each search result includes an AI-generated overview of the case and verbatim excerpts grouped by topic. Both the overview and the excerpt groups are tailored to the issue you’re researching.
The Overview
The overview summarizes the aspects of the case that are actually relevant to your research.
For example, in Meyer (shown below), all of my keywords are mentioned. The overview explains how, emphasizing the key terms and explaining how they factor into the case.
But Opals (below) is a different story. This case appears in the search results because the court references “California law” and the other search terms. But, the court ultimately applied New York law, which is not what I’m looking for. Normally, I’d have to open the case and control-f only to realize that this isn’t a case I want to cite. In midpage, there’s no need for this step. The overview explains that New York law is actually applied, so I can skip over it.
The Excerpts
The excerpts are verbatim quotes “hand” selected by the AI and grouped by topic. Each search result may have slightly different excerpt groups, depending on your search terms and what the case actually says. Because the key quotes are grouped by topic, it makes it easy to scan the relevant excerpts by toggling.
When you open a case, you can continue to navigate with these excerpts by clicking on the topics/quotes in the upper right-hand corner of the chat.
